Just like eBay and Craigslist scams, there are a variety of different scams actively in the works on Facebook and similar sites. Interestingly, the ones coming up right now on Facebook are actually more modern variations of old school Internet scams that have been around for years.

That means if you are careful and watch what you are doing, you can avoid falling victim to most Facebook scams.

Talk about all the scams on Facebook. It is really started to get plagued with hoaxes that are meant to cheat people. I am sure you have already heard of the famous Profit Profusion scam if you have been following my stories. This was a huge scam that has probably cost people 100,000 dollars. I have heard reports that it is has been removed but, it keeps popping up in different forms.

Furthermore, an increasing number of people have had their accounts high jacked. When these scammers steal your Facebook account they have really bad intentions and commonly do stuff that is very bad and can even steal you identity. They can gain access to your pictures and really cause a lot of harm to your image. Don't think that your stupid if someone steals your Facebook account; they have very intricate ways of doing it.

Phishing Scams On Facebook

Phishing for personal information that can be used for identity theft or illegal purchases of goods is the most common type of scam on a social networking site like this one. Since there are millions of members on this site and each person’s account holds a variety of personal details, it is a rich environment that is very attractive to scammers.

This is how one current scheme works. A user gets a message on their wall that one of their friends or contacts is opening up a new profile. There is a link in the message that will take them to the new profile so they can continue being friends.

When the link is clicked, it takes the user to an entirely new website which is set up to look just like a real Facebook page. This is a typical phishing website and the technique has been used for years to trick consumers.

This phishing page will not be an actual Facebook page, but will have a tricky URL name that looks as if it is directly connected to the real site. When the user puts in their screen name and password to log in, they are handing the scammer access to their own account.

Not only do they now have access to that one user’s personal information, but they can now send the same scam out to all of that user’s friends which keeps the scam going with more and more victims.

One other type of scam involves the free apps which literally anyone can create and offer for use on the site. Most apps are a lot of fun will not harm you in any way, but some are only there to take your money. If you come across an app that requires very personal information or a credit card or bank account number for access, turn and run!

This one has been around for a long time now and people really caught onto it last year. They basically run ads on your Facebook page and show your friends using saying blah blah is a genius, blah blah is dumb, ect. Really this is just done to get your attention. Well, anyways these idiots are using some really spammy techniques in order to get you to click on it and share the application with your friends. Really it is a MLM scam too.

So, I use Facebook too. It is a lot of fun and you can get in contact with your old friends, stay in touch with family and everything. But honestly this scam is costing people thousands of dollars. You basically take this quiz and that very end you will see a box to enter your phone number in and then they will send you, your IQ score. Sounds fun right? Wrong, it signs you up for something monthly. This is $10 a month and they cover there ass with some tiny little print. It is a dirty world when you read the fine print! It has been estimated that they generate billions of dollars off these scam. Something needs to be done about this scam seriously. Get that shit off Facebook!

Been Robbed Need Money Via Western Union

First off, see my why scammers use Western Union story. Secondly, I don't care what the reason is if someone wants money through Western Union you tell them HELL NO. There is no protection whatsoever with Western Union. Once collected there is nothing you can do to recover the money. Nothing at all! Ok so here is the scam that is going around on Facebook. Imagine this you are checking your messages on Facebook and you get a message from your good buddy who states that he/she has been robbed and doesn't have a wallet. It's from your friend it must be legit right? Uh no, not really, someone hijacked his/her account and now they are ripping off anyone and everyone they can. Sadly a lot of people actually fall for this one too. Its you friend and people naturally want to help there friends. Don't do it, trust me it is a scam.

This is a pretty complex scam that is getting a lot of unsuspecting people because of its complexity. I have actually received a lot of emails about this one. This will be from your friend and it will have some weird title like "Look Jennifer Lopez Tossed A Dog In A Trash Compactor". The point of this is to just get you to click on it. This is a method called Trolling. Anyways once you click on it you will see a site that looks like YouTube, however it will tell you something like you need to upgrade to the latest flash player or something. Do not download or install anything! This will install program on your computer that will submit this to all your friends. Therefor it will infect millions of people at a time.
